Generally I consider myself a family portrait photographer, and this means I typically book photoshoots with parents and children. Having three young kids myself, it's easy to fall into a mindset that this is what every family looks like. But before we had kids we had a dog, which we've always referred to as our first child. Many individuals and couples don't have kids but do have pets and pets are family.
I had an opportunity recently to photography my friends and their adorable dog, Koda. Koda arrived at my home studio all fresh and brushed and we went straight to work getting those beauty shots. These shots are great because I can control the light and the background and get amazing detail.
After the studio session, we walked across the street to Carolina North Forest and found some great spots for shots of the whole family. My friends hike and ride bikes with Koda frequently, and they really appreciated getting this scene with Koda documented. I had a blast doing this photoshoot!
This last year we lost our dog, a pitbull rescue my wife and I adopted right after we got married and moved to Durham. The portraits I have of her are invaluable and hang on our wall where our kids can see her.
