When customers order custom desserts online, clear and appetizing visual detail is what drives sales. I recently collaborated with the pastry chef Jenny Braitsch, owner of Confectious Creations in Pittsboro, NC, to photograph her full menu of artisanal cakes and cookies for her new website catalog.
Planning & Brand Colors
Before taking a single photo, we mapped out her brand aesthetic to ensure every image felt consistent across her store page. She chose a vibrant Orchid purple paper backdrop as her signature background. The rich purple tone creates a bold, clean contrast that makes white buttercreams, glossy caramel drips, and fresh red strawberries pop right off the screen.
On-Site Studio Setup
Working on-site in her home kitchen kept her baked goods as fresh as possible. Instead of bringing heavy gear into a tight residential space, I used a clean, high-impact portable setup:

Online food photography requires extreme clarity. We cataloged each item systematically—capturing clean angle shots of her strawberry-topped white cake, close-ups of her loaded chocolate chunk cookies, and detail shots of her cookie-topped caramel drip cake. Showcasing actual textures, crisp cookie edges, and glossy glazes gives potential customers total confidence when placing custom orders online.
